Breaking Down Barriers
All about us

Established in East Sussex in 2007 Breaking Down Barriers is a registered Community Interest Company that provides Guest speakers and a constantly evolving variety of creative and interactive training courses in the areas of Diversity and Inclusion, Conflict Management and Wellbeing. Our consultancy service provides expertise in the areas of leadership, organisational development and cultural change.

We also provide mentoring services for young people aged 14 -16 via our project Sussex Adolescent Mentoring Service known as SAMS. The aims of this programme are to help young people to enhance their life chances by developing their self-esteem, raising aspirations, building confidence and achieving their full potential.

Breaking Down Barriers is an organic enterprise growing from a personal commitment of its founder Barbara Rowe. In 2005 Barbara’s experiences of hate crime led Sussex Police to invite her to share her life stories as part of their Diversity training programme, to help those involved in policing to get a better understanding of the victim’s perspective. The success of this approach led to the creation of Breaking Down Barriers.

Breaking Down Barriers is committed to building an environment of inclusion and acceptance that values diversity across all areas of life. BDB aspires to become a Global organisation that will help to break down barriers wherever they exist, and create a future where everybody matters.
