Barbara

Barbara is a black British woman who has lived in rural areas of Sussex since 1999. She moved from London to escape the rat race and have a quiet life, but she has not always been given the welcome she had hoped for. She has encountered racism and discrimination and challenging behavior from certain sectors of the community based on their perception of her.

Barbara draws on her personal experiences to help break the barriers of race, culture, assumptions and stereotypes. Through discussion she tackles the issue of subtle racism that has to be dealt with on a daily basis by ethnic minority groups. The hidden bias and racist overtones in people’s attitudes.

Barbara gives people the opportunity to develop their own cultural awareness and to give an honest assessment of their biases and stereotypes. An engaging session that raises racial awareness and allows for full participation
