Thank you for your interest is Sussex Adolescent Mentoring Service (SAMS)! We are currently processing applications on a continual basis. All volunteers will be expected to complete our training and screening before starting to mentor. \u00a0PLEASE NOTE<\/span>:<\/span> for the purpose of this pilot stage we can only accept applications from mentors living within a 20 mile radius of Brighton and Hove.<\/p>\n

SUSSEX ADOLESCENT MENTORING MODEL<\/span><\/p>\n

What is one to one site based mentoring?<\/span><\/p>\n

Mentors and mentees meet in a supervised environment at a set time and location. Each mentor is matched with one mentee. Mentors commit to mentoring one academic year for 4-6 hours per month. Sessions take place at our partner site; individual off site activities are not permitted.<\/p>\n

How are sessions supervised?<\/span><\/p>\n

A site supervisor is present at all mentoring sessions.
\nThe site supervisor represents the partner organisation.
\nAs your main level of support, the site supervisor is available as a resource and to facilitate activities at sessions.<\/p>\n

APPLICANT PREREQUISITES<\/span><\/p>\n

The applicant must<\/span> be 21 years of age or older.
\nThe applicant must<\/span> make a one year commitment to mentor a young person for 4 to 6 hours a month.
\nThe applicant must<\/span> pass a criminal background check conducted by Breaking Down Barriers.<\/p>\n

APPLICATION PROCESS<\/span><\/p>\n

Submit an application.
\nAttend and participate in SAMS new mentor training.
\nComplete disclosure and Baring Service Check.
\nProvide three professional references and attend two interviews.<\/p>\n
