Breaking Down Barriers (BDB101) In-House Training
This course will introduce an understanding of what it is like to be a Black and minority ethnic person or a Romany Gypsy Traveller with first hand experiences on a wide range of issues in rural and semi-rural communities.
Delegates will also have an increased understanding of actions and strategies that prevent exclusion and improve inclusion in the wider spectrum.
Course Duration: 1 day
Staff from all teams who wish to raise their knowledge of Diversity issues.
To provide an opportunity for participants to widen their knowledge and understanding of the experience of being a Black and minority ethnic (BME) person or Romany Gypsy Traveller in the East Sussex context by hearing and questioning personal accounts. Participants will also learn about ‘Allport’s Scale’ and relate this idea to understand the experiences of inclusion and exclusion in the workplace and community for themselves and others.
- Increased knowledge and understanding of a range of common experiences for BME people and Romany Gypsies and Travellers in rural and semi-rural communities;
- Increased understanding of Allport’s Scale of discrimination and the potential impact on individuals of certain types of behaviour and communication;
- Understanding of a range actions and strategies that prevent exclusion and improve inclusion in the workplace and community.
